This Baroque church is dedicated to Eustace who according to legend lived in the 2nd century and refused to worship pagan gods. Convicted to be burnt alive inside a brazen bull (a torture device: a convict would be placed inside a metall bull held above a fire untill steamed to death). A rather bloody story, but very popular during the late Middle Ages when this 11th century church was founded.
The spectacular Baroque facade facing the Grand Canal dates from 1709. Not only the outside, but the interior as well is richly decorated with sculptures. The craftmanship with which they were made is outstanding. I found the painting work by leading artists from the early 1700s less appealing than the three-dimensional sculptures.
Lovely church needs donations to assist with maintenance worth a visit
Overlooked by the day trippers
Impressive church located at the Canale Grande. Site of the final scene of the famous movie "Don't Look Now".
It's a good viewpoint on the Venice Grand Canal
Did not go in. Only walked around, and located vaporetto station. Lots of coffee shops, restaurants and shops near by. Felt safe despite walking at sundown.
Very beautiful small church , worth the visit!
Part of the Chorus Pass.
Cool church. Didn't go inside because it was 12€. Most of the churches and basilicas charge for entry and we were doing a vacation on a budget, so we skipped going into a lot of the churches. So much beautiful things to see in Venice for no cost, there is no reason to spend money unless you have a lot of it or you have been to Venice multiple times.
